If you've ever looked at a pump designation like 25-225 THC-10-5-2-4 and wondered what it all means — you're not alone.
API designations are standardized codes defined by the American Petroleum Institute to describe the construction and performance characteristics of sucker rod pumps. Once you understand how to break them down, these designations tell you everything from the barrel size and pump type to plunger length, seating arrangement, and more.
At BP Supply, we want to make sure our customers and field teams are fully equipped to understand and communicate pump specs confidently. That’s why we’ve built this tool and resource center to help you decode API designations quickly.

Here is a video from one of our pump schools explaining API Designations from our ALS Technical Manager, Matt Horton.
